When
buy diamonds different
factors
should be considered
to determine the value
First
are the colors of
diamonds,
they are from clear white to
pink, yellow, blue, red and
all the rainbow from white
to black. White diamonds are
the most common used but the
real interesting; valuable
and beautiful diamonds are
colored diamonds. White
diamonds are common, colored
diamonds are exceptional.
Second are
diamond
cuts:
Sparkle
and brilliance of a diamond
is effected mostly by its
cut. It takes a master
craftsman to cut a diamond
to maximize it's light
reflection.
Third
is the size and clarity
which finally determine a
diamond price.
This categorizing
could also be different, it
more or less depends what is
important to the buyer.
Diamond
value
is determined by the 4
C's
. The
C's refer to Cut, Clarity,
Color and Carat. Each one is
important for the value of a
diamond, the higher the rate
in each category is, the
more is the value of the
diamond.
In
general, if you intend
buying a diamond over US$
1000,- it wont matter
if it is a diamond ring,
pendant, ear ring or
whatever, take a independent
diamond consultant with you,
you choose and you pay him,
hire the
person
by hourly payment only.
If you
don't go this way you will
be cheated on your buy
diamonds trip
for sure
and this can come easily
into several thousands of
dollars. The diamond trade
is almost totally in the
hand of Jewish and Indian
people. |

The most
common shape of a diamond
used is round. Diamonds are
also available as oval,
marquise, baguette and pear
shapes, but the most interesting
cut is
the
Asscher
cut
(picture

and

finally
bringing
beautiful

and more
to their
real
beauty.
The
clarity
of a
diamond
is a important
factor when buy diamonds
beside the size, to
determine the value of a
diamond.
Since every diamond
has some inclusions and if someone has a very special diamond without inclusions, its visible under the microscope, almost for sure it's an artificial or created diamond from the laboratory called cubic-zirconia.
Inclusions interfere with light reflection, affecting the brilliance of a diamond. The size and amount of inclusions effect the value. Most are not visible, only seen through a microscope.
Since
diamonds
were
formed
with
extreme
heat and
pressure, traces of other elements could have been included into their structure. These other elements are the stuff effecting the color of a diamonds.
There is a real diamond princess means a princess cut diamond one of the most beautiful diamond cuts, somehow a bit similar to Asscher cut, a princess cut is hiding certain inclusions and impurities. |

Diamonds
are
graded
in color
on a
scale, start with d and continue through the alphabet. The d diamond is practically colorless and extremely rare. Some colored diamonds are not valued as high as the colorless or
transparent diamonds, but some |

Pink Diamond from the Argyle-Mine |
colored diamonds, in particular pink diamonds from the Argyle Mine in Australia are even much more valuable than white or transparent diamonds.
They became more popular after the PR of the mines informed the public what celebrities just bought their pink diamonds and after the people run to have the same.

expressed in carat and the depth of the diamond cut in relation to the width can make diamonds of equal carat, appear different sized.
Excellent

are
about
60% as
deep as
wide.
This relation can maximize the brilliance and light reflection of a diamond. The size of the diamond also determines the rarity.
Means, a 1 carat diamond
is worth exponentially more than 2 half carat diamonds. Carat of diamonds is also different then karat grading the purity of gold.

But in
any
case,
keep in
mind
that the
biggest
company
in the
diamond
business
is De
Beers, a
South
African
monopoly
who
together with the Russians determine the prices of diamonds. It is strange that no European or US authority ever investigated into this since DeBeers is traded at the London Stock Exchange and the owners are more or less
British,
that
means
it's a
cartel,

The
Origins
of
Diamonds

Before

all
diamonds

from
alluvium.
All the

Brazil
had been
found
loose in
sediments.
Science
of that

no
answer
of how
the

in its

rock, or
indeed
what
that

Kimberlite |
kimberlite
is the
true
home of
diamonds.
The
first
raw
diamonds

loose in
the
so-called
"yellow

of
weathered kimberlite,
and
after
the
unaltered

was
found to
contain
diamond
crystals
too.
Kimberlite is typically a greenish gray rock
formed from a magna very rich in volatiles mainly co2 and h2o. Kimberlite is composed of large, irregularly shaped fragments mixed into a fine-grained groundmass..
Kimberlite
is
defined
as a

volatile-rich,
potassic,

igneous
rock
derived
from

(150 km

It is

Research
showed that
diamonds
come
from the

bodies
in
kimberlite,
these
bodies
are
xenoliths
and that
the
xenoliths
(and,
therefore,
the
diamonds)
are much
older
than the
kimberlite
which
moved
them to
the
surface. |

Kimberlite was found in South Africa as great, carrot-shaped kimberlite pipes, the point of the carrot connecting with a system of feeder fissures reaching to unknown depths.
The kimberlite pipes root zone,
from the point of the carrot two or three kilometers down and below, generally marks the lower limit of economically profitable mining. But the pinch-out of the structure is never quite complete; the feeder system is now believed to reach to depths of at least 150 km. The main
body of
the kimberlite pipe
widens
upwards,
and is
composed
of
kimberlite
and
other
rock
types.
At the
top of
the
pipe,
the
crater
zone
originally
consisted
of a
low-relief
crater.
This
crater
area, if
it still
exists,
may be
water-filled
and may
contain
substantial
amounts
of

Around
the
shallow
craters
on the
surface
of the kimberlite pipes there
was
originally
a ring
of
volcanic
debris,
called a
"tuff
ring,"
about 50
meters
high. In
most
diamonds
deposits
this
ring is
now
gone, it
has been
observed
only in
a few
places
in
Tanzania
and
Botswana,
because
the
diamond
deposits are of great age and the debris weathers away very quickly. In fact, kimberlite

rock generally weathers quickly: hence the considerable thickness of many yellow-ground beds where the "dry diggings" of South Africa's early diamond rushes took place.
Until about 1870 raw diamonds
were washed out from the river beds. By chance primary deposits of volcanic pipes were discovered in south Africa in Kimberlite, the diamond 'motherstone'. |
|
Diamonds have naturally been made at depth of about 150-300 km or more, at very high temperatures and extreme pressure. Through volcano eruption they reach the earth surface together with magma.
Due to normal erosion of volcanic mountains Kimberlite pipes -the "mother stone of diamonds"- became more or less easily accessible.
Until the 18. Century Borneo or today Malaysia and Indonesia were the primary sources of diamonds together with India.
In 1725 diamonds were found in Brazil, at Minas Gerais. In 1842, the black brown Carbonado -diamond- of Bahia is discovered but mainly for industrial purposes.
After south Africa became the primary source of diamonds. Diamond were first found in south Africa in 1867 around the source of the Oranje River. Initially, only river storage sites were exploited by washing and selecting the diamonds out from the other stones which is sometimes a difficult task since the raw diamond doesn't look much different than the other small stones in the river.
The most famous pipe storage mine in south Africa, the Kimberley mine was exploited from 1871-1908 without any machine. Here the biggest man made hole was made, called the Big Hole, no, not the black hole where all taxpayers money disappear. The big hole has 460 m diameter an is about 1100m deep now its filled up to half with water.
A total of 14.5 million carat diamonds (almost 3 tons) were extracted from this mine. In 1914 this diamond mine was abandoned and underground mining started in south Africa. That means, first a pit next to the Kimberlite pipe is created and through tunnels in the rock the diamond pipes are mined.
After the extraction diamond selection is done. The king among gemstones is for sure the diamond.

Diamond Selection |

Diamond comes from the Greek "adamas" means 'unconquerable' since a diamond is the hardest stone on earth it's exactly what it is already known 2000 years ago and nothing has changed since. Optical brilliance, hardness and a stunning beauty of this beautiful precious gem has always been considered a woman's best friend. I don't know if that's true, because you cant eat diamonds and to make sex to diamonds is also a rather challenging behavior. Did ever anyone try this? Pls. tell via the email link, I am curious. Diamond color range
is from clear or colorless to yellow, blue, pink, rose and many other variants of the light spectrum. Colored diamonds especially pink diamonds and blue diamonds became very popular these days after celebrities like the Beckham's, Madonna Jennifer Lopez and others were spotted wearing them. |

When you are looking for the perfect diamond for an engagement ring to give to your love you better think twice since this is probably one of the most important investments that you will make in your lifetime, so you better make sure to get value for your money. A little help is a diamond certificate from a reputable evaluation lab, is like a blueprint of |

the diamond in the ring . It should tell you exactly what the properties of that diamond are.
Grading laboratories that do diamond evaluation. The two top ones are the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and American Gem Society Laboratories (AGS). These two are known for their consistent and unbiased system for grading loose diamonds. Make sure that you look for the name of the lab that performed the evaluation of your cushion diamond or other type. If it wasn't graded by either of these companies better be very cautious. The certificate is not the only subject to look at when purchasing a diamond, you must also be ok with the look and |

the cut of the diamond. Each certified diamond is issued a unique identification number. The evaluation report gives you the quality parameter of the diamond and getting it insured means to a get a replacement for the ring in the event it is stolen or damaged.
A insurance company will replace the diamond jewelry according to the appraisal value, means put all the relevant data together and finally ask your insurance agent what to do when the great love wont last so long and the love object drifts away with the diamond ring. Since you probably aren't Dogbert Duck, be careful. |
A very valuable blue diamond
|
is the Wittelsbach Diamond now Wittelsbach - Graff, an 17th century deep blue diamond of 35.56 carats was sold for $24,311,190 at Christies in London in December 2009, Graff Diamonds was the buyer. A new world record for a diamond, and for any piece of jewelry, sold at auction until today. The previous record was $16.5 million for a 100 carat diamond sold in 1995 in Geneva.
The Wittelsbach Diamond isn't just any diamond stone. It has it all: the right cut, beauty and rarity. Diamonds with deep blue colors are extremely rare. It reminds to one of the other the world's most famous precious stone, the Hope Diamond. Compared to the per carat price of a million dollars for a pink diamond from the Argyle Mine of less than a carat, this big blue is finally not so expensive. |
